All cricket clubs have an obligation to appoint a Club Welfare Officer, irrespective as to whether or not they have a junior section at their club. These officers have a remit to provide advice on Safeguarding issues and to ensure that the club adheres to all aspects of Safeguarding. The Club Welfare Officer should attend an ECB Safe Hands Workshop as well as a ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children’ workshop accredited by Sportscoach UK (to be booked separately through Sportscoach UK).
The ECB have published guidelines about safeguarding children against abuse and how to report any concerns you may have. Although the information is designed for coaches/ managers on pathways, it is also a useful document for everyone involved with children and young people, particularly club coaches.
